Week 1

Should we abolish the Electoral College?

For our first week at NHA Online, we are going to take a deep dive into the electoral college, studying its origins, its impact and whether it should remain the central means by which we elect our President.

Week 2
July 15 – 18

The Right of Revolution for the Disenfranchised

We will explore this topic through the HBS Case, “Property, Suffrage, and the ‘Right of Revolution’ in Rhode Island, 1842,” in which an armed rebellion arose to fight for expanded voting rights.

Week 3
July 22 – 25

How Voting Methods Affect Democracy

The “Australian Ballot” case examines voting in the late 19th century with some surprising findings as we shifted toward voting in private.

Week 4
July 29 – August 1

Manufacturing Constituencies: Race and Redistricting in North Carolina, 1993

This case gets to the heart of what many consider to be a key flaw in US democracy today. During this week, we will consider alternatives to the current system and potential alternatives.

Time Commitment

Typically, all synchronous class sessions are from 8:00-9:30 pm EDT, Monday through Thursday.


Tuition for each one-week session is $95. Scholarships are available on a need basis.
